Did you know about the rare Golden Tigers?
By iastoppers.com
Rare spectacle
The golden tiger, also known as a golden tabby or strawberry tiger, was recently spotted in Kaziranga National Park.
Similarity
It is not a separate species but a color variant of Bengal tigers, similar to white and black tigers.
Genetic makeup
Its golden hue is caused by a recessive colour inhibitor (chinchilla) gene, resulting in a distinctive appearance.
Identity
It lacks an officially designated name but stands out from its typical orange-with-black-stripe counterparts.
Distinction
Golden tigers tend to be larger and, due to the effect of the gene on the hair shaft, have softer fur than their orange relatives.
Appearance
Separated from normal tiger family members, golden tigers exhibit a white coat with gold patches.
Survival
They have higher survival potential in captivity, with a lifespan of around 18 years, as compared to 8-10 years in the wild.
Male v/s Female
Male golden tigers measure 270-310 cm, surpassing females who are 240-265 cm, while males weigh 221 kg and females are 139 kg.
Conservation
Approximately 30 golden tigers currently exist in the wild, therefore they are on the critically endangered list by IUCN.
