Swedish defense company Saab is planning to set up a manufacturing unit for Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems in Haryana, marking the state as an emerging manufacturing hub for advanced weapons
The planned facility will cover a 3.6-acre area in Jhajjar, a region known for its brave soldiers, with construction already underway and weapon production expected to start next year
This project received approval for 100% foreign direct investment (FDI), making Saab the first defense promoter in India to get such clearance
The Carl-Gustaf M4 is the latest, fourth-generation recoilless rifle that is lightweight, multi-role, and portable, designed for soldiers to handle various battlefield challenges
The weapon system enables the firing of a range of 84mm rounds, including anti-personnel and anti-armor munitions, and can launch surface-to-air missiles to neutralize low-flying aircraft
At approximately seven kilograms, the Carl-Gustaf M4 is a lightweight weapon that enhances soldiers' mobility and flexibility with its shoulder-launched, reusable system
It features an all-weather capability, programmable ammunition, and an advanced fire control system, which contribute to quick, accurate, and effective responses in combat situations
The weapon provides a tactical advantage in various combat scenarios, such as neutralizing enemy troops, destroying tanks, clearing obstacles, and engaging in urban warfare
Saab's upcoming facility in India, their first outside Sweden, will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, including modern sighting technology and carbon fibre winding
The new manufacturing unit will not only supply the Indian armed forces but may also produce components for international use, employing approximately 100 people
