Situated in the state of Odisha, it is a significant Hindu temple devoted to Jagannath, a manifestation of Vishnu.

The main temple of Jagannath in Puri was constructed by King Indradyumna of Avanti.

It is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites.

It is renowned for its yearly Ratha Yatra or chariot festival.

Worship during the festival is performed by Bhil Sawar, a tribal priest.

The deity representation of Jagannath is crafted from wood and is ritually substituted every twelve or 19 years with an identical replica.
